I Don’t Need Pants, I’ve Got a Lawsuit

Alright, well, I might need pants. But at any rate, I do have a lawsuit on my hands. HP called me back and told me that if I wanted a refund, they would give me back 75% of what I paid. Which, roughly translated, means “We’re going to take a shit on your face. Say ‘aah’!” I’m highly displeased. When Mark, the supervisor guy, told me that, I asked what would be required to push that number up towards, oh, I don’t know…100%. He told me that I’d have to get an attorney and get in touch with their legal department.

And thanks to Mary Ann, I’ve done just that: her boss has kindly offered to write an initial letter for me, free of charge. We’ll see how that goes. Once I get my money back, however much it may be, I’ll use that and the $900 I got from the sale of Pixel to Katie (biggest mistake ever, though I’m glad that she’s happy) to pay off my debt to FutureShop. And then, I’ll go straight to Staples. And buy this.

Toshiba Satellite A70

It’s a computer that actually would have been worthy of the name Megapixel. I don’t know what I’ll name it yet — that will have to wait until I have it (which, obviously, may take a while). Staples has a 6 month no-interest-no-payment plan, which is only half as good as FutureShop’s twelve, but hey. The laptop is a beautiful beast, and since it’s a Toshiba, I know I can trust it. The stats are pretty much the same as the piece of garbage sitting on the coffee table, with a few exceptions: hard drive is only 40 GB instead of 60 (big deal), and the video card only has 64 MB of RAM. Since it’s shared memory, if I upgrade to 1 GB of RAM, I can boost that to 128 MB. The awesome part is the processor: where (expletive deleted) had a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 Celeron, this one has a full-fledged Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading. Hyperthreading! Sweet! God, I’m excited. Even this whole affair of a lawsuit isn’t so bad. Light at the end of the tunnel, etc.

As usual, shizzle.

And if HP calls your letter a bluff? When you sent MegaPixel back for repairs.. who’s bill was it? ’cause if it was their’s, might make more sense to waste some of their money as opposed to spending yours sending it back for warranty work time and time again.

Steve

Yeah but there is a point when you can’t sit around while your laptop is being repaired more than you can use it. And you know, I would just name it Megapixel and forget the whole pile of crap that happened.

Apollo

Wow, that’s quite a load of bullshit. You got a defective product and haven’t had any prolonged use of it and all they can offer is 75% of the cost? HP / Compaq has to have the worst customer relations of any computer company I’ve ever heard of.

As for a name for your new laptop, I would go with something like Megapixel Version 2.DoesNotSuck.

Keddy@home

GIVE THEM THE SHAFT!!!

Steve

je

Don’t you think that they would save money by giving you a full refund as opposed to fixing it again, and again, and AGAIN? And, ya know, make a (potential) life long customer happy. Stupid people…they need some businss sence….I need to go work for them:-)

Mark@Gwen

Yeah, beat some sense into them.

Great video, Steve. I love it.

Russell@Alderney Gate Library

Obviously they aren’t seeing the big picture. You need your computer for school, it’s a requirement is it not? They need to know how much tuition money you are wasting by not having the computer available. There’s no way they can get away with only giving you 75% of the cost when it’s their mess.

I really can’t believe their not taking ownership for that piece of shit they call a computer. If I was running the company I’d be like "Well shit dude, looks like we fucked you in the ass! Here’s a new laptop plus some free shit to shut you up so you don’t go to the media." Which is also something I think you should do. Talk to one of those "On your side" people.

Oh yeah, and new name: The Real MegaPixel.

Mark@John-s

That’s way too long for a laptop name. I’m thinking M-Prime, for Megapixel Prime. Or, M’ for short.

PS: On Your Side doesn’t exist anymore.

Apollo

Mark, there’s a site I recall from Linkpool that had an interesting guestbook / tag board-like section. It used cubes to represent comments. You wouldn’t happen to remember the name of the site or anything that might help me find it again, would you?

Peter

Hey dude. I just got that Toshiba. And it IS sweet.

Some frustrated guy

Hey there all, guess what. I bought a A70 3 months ago and it stopped working 1 month ago. Finally, after annoying the crap out of Toshiba, I got a new one but with a 3.0Ghz cpu instead of the 2.8. Well, I got it yesterday and as of today, december 8th at 11h45am EST, it’s stopped working, I will just not start.

If you ask me, either I have been VERY unlucky or Toshiba laptops are pieces of junk…

Grrr.

Toshiba Sucks!!!!!

They have static electricity problems and Toshiba sucks so much that they wont call them back for repair or refund people with A70 or A75. Don’t buy Toshiba laptops.
