You Have No Easy-pour Spout

Wow, it’s really raining. The weather outside is frightful, although not in a very holiday-esque manner. As previously stated, I can’t wait for the holiday season to arrive. For some reason, I’ve lost my grinch-like demeanor this year and I’m ready for snow. Lots of snow. And Christmas specials on television. Now, if only I knew why American Thanksgiving is a month later than Canadian Thanksgiving (or eleven months earlier, depending on your perspective), I’d be pretty content. Now, take a look at the CS web cam and enjoy the dampness:

Click the image to get a nice little animation — I really like the tractor that drives by.

Anyway, I’m just spending the day at home, avoiding all of the school work that I really should be working on. At some point today — probably this evening, to be honest — I have to go to FutureShop and get their technician guys to take a look at Nano. I’m having a weird issue (and yes, I think I might be cursed when it comes to laptops), whereby I can be sitting there, doing whatever, and all of a sudden, the computer is off. Totally. It doesn’t shutdown, it just turns off. And it happens whether it’s plugged in or running on batteries. I’m not sure what the problem is, so it’s best to get it looked at quickly. And it’s very annoying — just last night, such a power outage destroyed a new family I had created in The Sims 2, which is a shamefully addictive game.

In other news, George Bush, assassin of the freeworld, is coming to Halifax next week. Can you say “protest”? I can’t wait — I’ll probably ditch some classes to get check out the doin’s. What an cockmonger — I hope he gets the message that he really isn’t welcome in Canada. If you’re going to be diplomatic with Canada, you should probably do it within, oh, I don’t know, the first four years of your presidency. Again, cockmonger. Arg.

So. Yeah. That’s about all that’s going on it my world.

Steve

I’d like to point out that he isn’t leaving the air port grounds and I believe he will be landing in the private jet area which is fenced off so more than likely only press and invited guests can come see.

Mark

Yeah, well, I heard that there was going to be some sort of "doo" downtown. Plus, he has to stay at the governor general’s mansion — that’s what it’s there for.

je

He’s not staying Mark, he’s landing, making a statement, and turning around to get back on his plain to leave.

Mark

Curses. That differs from what they said on CBC yesterday. :(

to go?

one large crap…

Steve

Yeah the CBC seems to be a little confused everyone else says he’s not leaving the airport. The whole point to him coming here is to avoid any protests.

Pugs

Umm the funny thing is, is that technically if he doesn’t exit a certain area of the airport it’s still international ground. So technically on his first official visit to Canada he would have never actually visited Canada.

Steve

But since he is getting off in Ottawa to meet with the Prime Minister and some other officials a few days before he will have been to Canada.

Chris

So he will be thanking the people of Canada for allowing our airports to become parking lots and school gymnasiums turn into hostels, by waving to those that are working the tarmac over in Halifog (sorry.. just found a picture I took of that sick fog you guys got out there)? Hmm.. man.. when’s he coming to the left coast to do the same thing?

Pugs

I didn’t know that he was going to Ottawa, I thought he was just going to come here.

Apollo

I think he’s trying to confuse those of us who would like to protest. I’m thinking that there will be multiple events - one at the airport for him to witness and one for general public participation downtown.

Tony

bwhahaha. Check this out:

I went to read the article on some site about GWB coming to halifax. And look at the banner that came up.

je

Hey Mark,
I was wrong, Bush IS leaving the air port, he is making a speech at Peir 21 or Peir 22. And, FYI, he wants to come to halifax to avoid the protests in ottawa. HA (so says the radio this morning)

Mark@Nano

Thak you! That’s exactly what I heard on CBC last week.

Apollo

Aparantly the SS is already all over Halifax. Be careful what you say in public.

je

I wish to withdraw my "I was wrong" statement. :-) It wasn’t me who was wrong it was the ATV morning news on BT. :-) As you know Mark, I’m never wrong :-)

Jordan

Anyone over there have a really good arm? Like good enough to chuck a rotten egg over a sea of reporters and secret service agents? Just wondering.

Steve

Who cares if the Secret Service are all over Halifax they can’t do anything to us, A this is a country outside they’re jurisdiction, B freedom of speech.

Apollo

The SS can still call in the CIA, which works covertly in all nations.

I’m really not all that worried, honestly. I’ve been putting Bush down since before he was (s)elected and made joking threats at his life (you know, send him pretzels for Christmas) before without incident. I was making the comment largely as a joke and to see if there would be a reaction.

Steve

Why be worried, and its kind of sick joking about a persons life honestly thats not so far of from the mindset of the powers in government in the USA.

Mark@Nano

This Wednesday, there’s a rally at the Killam Library at Dal, and then everyone is converging downtown. Yahoo.

And making fun of George Bush and hoping for his death are perfectly acceptable — he’s subhuman. Evil dictator’s don’t count.

Apollo

Mark, can you keep me up to date on the Killam deal? If you’re going to it I’d like to meet up there. Protesting without a friend is a lonely deal. Poor Nathan will be making pretzels in Bayer’s Lake.

I don’t sincerely wish for anyone’s death, but I do believe the world is better off without people like Bush. Humour, even the morbid sort, has its place when dealing with politics. With all the bullshit us citizens have to deal with we need a way to laugh.

Mark@Nano

I’ll keep you informed. I’m pretty sure that I’ll go. Hopefully some other folks will join us, of course.

And you’re right. It’s hard to actually hope for anyone’s death. I just wish he’d disappear.

Apollo

I have an aquaintence who has professional photography training and may be sharing some of his photos of the protests with me for use on my site. I may be meeting up with him as well. I’m not sure what all will be happening.

Steve

Gee I have professional photography training to blah.

Mark@Nano

I just saw a trailer for "After the Sunset" (looks terrible). At the bottom, it said (C) 2005 New Line Cinema. Isn’t that a bit premature?

Incidentally, there are Chia pet commercials on TV again. And they’re the original ones from the earlier nineties. The world is going nuts!

Also, I stayed home from work. I’m sick. :(

Steve

it would say (C) 2005 if the movie is released in 2005.
