August 25: Thirsty Ducks

OK, I think I may have won an award today for the slackest work day possible: we (as in everyone in the office) went for lunch at 11:30, returning to the office at 3:30 for an hour before going out to Niche for beer and nachoes at 4:30. I got about 3 hours worth of work done today, which is pretty funny.

It's been almost a week since I had my wisdom teeth out, and I'm pretty much back to normal. Sadly, I still have stitches to whine about, but I think they go away soon. Overall, it wasn't too bad, but it was still unpleasant. I'm grossed out just thinking about it, actually.

Anyway, I'm just at Janet's, helping out with a humourous prank that I can't wait to see unfold. I'll definitely say what it is later, but I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise. I can't wait. So, with that said, I should stop blogging and start doing that again. It's so great. So, until next time...

(Incidentally, I really like the new Justin Timberlake song. Judge me harshly, I deserve it. Sigh.)
Well, I just had my wisdom teeth removed (all four of them). I feel a bit stupid from the drugs that they gave me and most of my face is numb. This is somewhat amusing in the case of my nose, but annoying for everything else. Although it wasn't all that bad of a procedure, it's still no fun at all. It's pretty gross to be able to feel them ripping things out of your face, if only indirectly (since my mouth is very, very numb). I guess the worst is yet to come, but I'm optimistic that I'll be back to normal come Monday. Here's hoping.

Anyway, I'm supposed to get lots of rest and eat Jell-o and stuff, so I'm going to relax. Until we meet again...

August 14: Let Jag

Heya! I'm back, and almost done being jetlagged. The flight home was long and night-timeish and pretty boring (I hate night flights, and I seem to get them an awful lot). I got back yesterday morning (mornan'!) around 11 am, went for breakfast at Smitty's, and pretty much vegged for the rest of the day. I was back at work today, so things are pretty much back to normal.

San Francisco was absolutely amazing. I loved almost everything about it, with the following exceptions: first of all, there are a LOT of homeless people, and secondly, people kick pigeons. Often! I couldn't believe it — who kicks animals? I'm not sure what the motivation is there, but I saw it happen a number of times. Poor pigeons.

Anyway, I'm off to do some laundry. Somebody tell me something awesome, quick!

August 10: Thursday

Thanks to my stupdenous luck, I managed to get sick while here in beautiful, sunshiney San Francisco. I have the worst luck with things like that. It was sneaking up on me Tuesday morning and hit me full-force that afternoon, making yesterday pretty miserable, too. Today, I'm not quite back to normal, but I feel a lot better. And I should, because today is the day they load us into buses and take us out to Cupertino. To coin a phrase, “OMG OMG awesome.”

Anyway, I have to go meet some people, so I can't really write for any longer. I'll update tomorrow. (Oh, by the way, I bought a wireless Mighty Mouse. I'm such a shill for Apple.)

August 08: Tuesday

Life in San Francisco continues to be awesome. The weather is amazing and the conference is a blast. It's pretty strange to be in a place where every computer you see has a glowing Apple logo on it somewhere. Everyone is ridiculously friendly, whether they're representing their company (like the guys from Final Draft and Microsoft Office) or just wandering around having a good time. I met two guys from Iowa yesterday that I've been hanging around with, which is a bonus. WWDC rules.

I haven't actually seen much of San Francisco itself, though, other than what I pass on the way to the Moscone Center. The trolley is an easy and reliable way for me to get from point A to point B, so I haven't done much exploring to speak of. I just got back from the Apple Store a few minutes ago, and that's as far as I've been from the conference centre all day. I bought a DVI-to-Video adapter so I can finally hook my Mac up to the TV. (Incidentally, when you pay with a credit card, Apple somehow emails you a receipt. It's really weird. I guess they must've pulled my card number from their online records, but it's sort of disconcerting nonetheless.)

Anyway, I've uploaded a few more pictures to Flickr, but nothing too exciting. You're not allowed to take photos of any of the events here, so I'm not taking a lot of pictures.
Things that are weird: arriving in your hotel room in San Francisco after a busy day of getting oriented, and finding it set to C-SPAN with Stephen Harper giving a speech. I feel like he followed me.

Aaaaanyway, I'm here! Woot! I can hardly believe it. San Francisco is amazing and every now and then I have to remind myself that I'm in California, and that tomorrow I will see Steve Jobs give a presentation, and sometime this week I will meet Steve Wozniak. Wow. It's going to be an amazing week.

I'm really happy with my hotel. It has a nice king size bed and is in good shape, as well as having a (somewhat spotty) wireless Internet connection. It's right on Market Street, which is uber convenient — I can catch one of those stereotypical San Francisco trolleys whenever I want it and takes me within a block of the WWDC, which, incidentally, is some amazingly nerdy that I could just die now. I went and got registered this afternoon, and it's pretty amazing.

Anyway, it's been a long day, and I've got a really long day tomorrow, so I think I'm going to go have a shower and go to bed. Try not to die without me being there, folks.

My photos are on Flickr for interested parties.

August 03: Oh, The Excitement

Holy crap! You know, in less than 72 hours, I'll be in San Francisco, basking in the California sun and frantically trying to figure out where I'm supposed to go. That's pretty crazy — I'm really excited. The geek-o-sphere is alive with predictions about what great things will be unveiled on Monday morning, ranging from the yeah-that's-definitely-gonna-happen (the Mac Pro) to the pretty-likely (64-bit Intel machines) to the possible (iPod video) to the very-unlikely (iChat Mobile). Personally, I think the last two would be the most interesting, so I guess I'm rooting for the underdogs.

Blah. It is so freakishly muggy at work today that I can barely think. I've got a little tiny fan on my desk to keep me from bursting into flames, but it's just not enough. Man, I can't wait until things cool down again. Hoodie weather is fine by me. Viva September.

Anyway, back to work for Mark. Until we meet again...
