Better late than never, right?

October 29: Clock Birthdays

First of all, I would like to wish Janet a happy birthday (“Happy birthday! Woo!”). Second of all, she'd like to say that the whole clock going back thing is her birthday gift to the world.

We finally carved our pumpkins on Friday night, leading to some pretty interesting results. I carved the Apple logo, but it didn't come out as good as I thought it would. I tried going with the shaving method instead of the cutting method, and it ended up not being particularly good. I did try, however.

Janet carved two, one of Charlie Chaplin and one of a Stooge. I didn't get any good pictures of the Stooge pumpkin, but the Charlie Chaplin one looks great.

David carved Katie into his pumpkin. She carved the beach. Keddy carved a flamingo.

Anyway, all of the photos I thought for that and for the trip down to Hennigar's a few weeks ago are on my Flickr account.

October 22: Refresh

I just finished doing a “refresh” on the layout of this site. The previous layout (which was called “Rockstar”, by the way) had a few problems with it that I never got around to fixing. The most obvious one was the way the menu bar wrapped when the browser window wasn't wide enough to fit all of the items, but there were lots of little things that I was never satisfied with. I decided to finally take the time this afternoon to fix all of the problems and freshen things up a bit. You're looking at the new layout now. For the sake of comparison (and future record), I've uploaded before & after images. (The “before” image shows off the ugly menu wrapping thing.) Things I'm proud of include the little header tabs in the sidebar and the nice gradient in sidebar boxes. The whole thing is just a lot brighter and cleaner. I like it.

In non-nerd news, I went to the corn maize last night, finally. It was chilly and muddy and pretty fun. We've been trying to go for about a month, so it's nice that we finally succeeded. The only pre-Halloween event left now is the great pumpkin carving, which remains unscheduled.

Anyway, I have to go get something to eat, so until next time...

October 18: Work Week

Good day, world. What's new? I'm just killing time while something downloads and figured I'd take the time to update, since it's been, um, a week. (Yes, I need to get on that more often. I am aware of the problem.)

There's nothing too interesting happening in my world. I'm finally starting to notice the weather cool down a bit, which is particular crappy since my jacket is currently out of order — it got very dirty, but needs dry cleaning, so who knows how long it will take me to get it dry cleaned. I have the worst timing ever, in almost all respects of my life. Le sigh. I'm excited to carve the pumpkin that I got during last weekends incredibly damp pumpkin adventure, which will really kick off the Halloween season for me (although, thirteen days, woo!). After Halloween, it's just a short hop to the ever-so-festive-and-politically-correct holiday season, and better yet, snow.

Anyway, my file is done, so I'm back to work. Until we meet again.

October 11: Pumpkins?!

Oh, man, it's almost pumpkin time and I could just freak out. This Saturday, we're off to the valley to procure a pile of pumpkins (accidental alliteration is awesome) and visit the gigantic corn maize in Truro. It's going to be a blast. If I wasn't so busy at work, the week would be going by very slowly.

In other news, well, nothing...not much is new in my world. I spent the weekend helping Mom put down laminate floor in her room, which was (as home improvement always is in our house) pretty awful. The people who put our house together were clearly braindead. Carpets are not meant to be glued to the floor. Grr.

Anyway, I should get back to work. Until we meet again...

October 04: Exciited

Update: Sunday shopping is now legal in Nova Scotia. FINALLY. Anyway...

On Saturday, I pre-ordered a Nintendo Wii. I am really, really excited about it. I think it looks like it's going to be a lot of fun to play, especially since they're making lots of old games available on it as well. I don't think I've been this excited about a game system since I got my NES way back when. It's going to rule. I've got a little countdown on my calendar at home, which is currently floating at 47 days. (I'm picking it up on November 20th, since the official launch date of November 19th falls on a Sunday, and I live in a moronic land where stores Must Not Be Open on Sundays — okay, this became untrue. What a coincidence.)

In nerdy web site news, I've been getting hit by comment spam really bad this past week. I think I've found a plugin to solve the problem, but it's hard to tell. I'm so sick of garbage on the Internet. As much fun as it is being able to cruise around and do whatever, I sometimes wish we lived in a world where everything was attributable to somebody, just to stop people from wrecking things. Spam, in all forms, sucks.

Anyway, it's almost lunch time, so I should start figuring out what I want. Until next time, I bid you good day.
