September 27: Caaalifornia Lo-ove

Good morning, world. I'm currently sitting in the departure lounge of the airport, en route to Donna's wedding in California. I'm back on Monday, so this isn't an epic trip or anything, but it's always fun to travel. We're going to Santa Barbara (or rather, some suburb nearby). I love traveling and I especially like flying, so I'm having a good time thus far, incredibly early morning aside.

Once nicety is that the airport has free WiFi, which I haven't had much of a chance to make us of before. I've planted myself next to a power socket and I have my beloved HotSpot Shield running. I think I'd probably be reasonably happy here all day.

Anyway, I'm off to find something to amuse me on YouTube. Until we next time, Gadget...next time.

PS: Alarm clocks should never, ever be set for five am. That functionality shouldn't even work without a fight — the alarm clock should try to talk you out of it.

September 21: Washooms

Why is it that washrooms in public spaces receive no attention whatsoever? They're always the crummiest, dirtiest, falling-apart-iest part of the place. I was in Westcliffe (home of the world's slowest, cheapest, most delicious burger) and their washroom is missing tiles on one entire wall.

You know what has great washrooms? Irving gas stations. It's weird.

Well, don't act like they didn't see it coming. (via Yahoo! Finance, via reddit)

September 19: Avast!

Ahoy there, me hearties! It be International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Take your fill of grog and buxom wenches.

Shiver me timbers — YAR!

September 14: Cars cars cars

Well, the car is officially written off. Its little road trip into a tree proved too costly to repair, so the insurance company cut Mom a cheque, and we're now busily research cars. Important features: good stereo, air conditioning, preferably a standard, has to be good (and safe!) on the highway, since Mom works in the valley.

Suggestions?

So far, I've mainly been focusing on Volkswagens, because I think they're nifty and they have a decent reputation for safety. Corollas have a good reputation too, but so far, all of the ones I've looked at seemed cheap and plastic-y. I'm leaving all of the decision making up to Mom this time around, but personally, I think my mind is set on the VW. They seem to be the Macintoshes of the car world. Slightly more expensive, a bit quirky, but interested and beloved by their owners.

Anyway, if anyone has any brilliant suggestions to share, that would be greatly appreciated. I'm certainly not much of a help in this department — I'm as clueless about cars as is stereotypically possible for a computer geek. :)

September 10: Sam

RIP, Sam. Put to sleep for unknown illness. I'm really going to miss you, Ranch Cat.

September 04: Autonomous Roadtrip

Weirdest thing ever: after work on Friday, Mom stopped by the apartment to pick me up so we could go out for supper and loan me the car. She came upstairs to see how the cat was, and when we went back downstairs, the car was nowhere to be found. Slightly alarmed, we looked around and saw a fire truck across the street, past the intersection. We hurried over and found that the car had smashed into a tree. Apparently, the emergency break broke, because it was definitely on. The car had crossed the street and traveled about a block without smashing into any other cars.
2007 Buick Allure

Poor car. It's like it was too excited for our Prince Edward Island Labour Day Road Trip Extravaganza and set off without us. Needless to say, I had to rent a car, and due to shortages, we ended up getting bumped to a big-ass luxury car: a 2007 Buick Allure (aka the Tiger Woods-mobile).
