I absolutely cannot believe that it's New Year's Eve already. It seems like just yesterday I was freezing my ass off in an unheated cabin near a lake in the middle of nowhere. 2007 really flew by, which really isn't surprising, I guess — it was packed full of ski injuries and house renovations, trips to Scotland and Santa Barbara, me moving out and both Peppi and Sam dying. Yep, a busy year.

In a few minutes, I'll be heading off to Katie's house for a New Year's Eve Board Game Extravaganza (my term, not hers), which should be fun. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that I'll be asleep by nine — in keeping with the annual tradition, I have quite a cold, and I'm therefore on heaps of DayQuil and Sudafed. I have that lovely, disjointed tingling sensation that happens when you're on cold medicine for too long.

So, on that tingly note, I'm off. Happy New Year, world.

Happy Christmas, world (and, belatedly, Happy Basemas — don't you think for a minute that's totally forgotten). It's, um, not even 7 yet. I was forced out of bed somewhat early.

Paco & Sean slept over here last night, and David & Katie are on their way over from their place now. I think Paco is a bit unhappy to have been woken up so early, because she's sitting in her house glaring at us. Poor Paco.

It's not very festive outside, unfortunately — yesterday was mostly rain, which eliminated most of our hard won ice-snow (snice). It's supposed to be pretty warm all week, excluding some snow on Thursday, which isn't particularly excited. I want snow.

Anyway, I'm off to watch Beavis & Butthead's Christmas while I wait for people to arrive. Ciao.

Ugh! This is the last week I have to actually work in 2007, and boy is it ever dragging. As of five PM on Friday, I'm off until January, which is fantastic. I can't wait. Sean and I have decided to team up in a display of Super Awesome Nerd Powers and work on some geeky projects together. We've been collecting ideas for things to build and we're going to choose a few (smallish) projects to implement. Ideally, we won't be doing anything too complex — the founding principle of this little endeavour is that it's better to get something out than to spend forever working on something giant. Small steps. I'm really trying to get back into the habit of making things in my spare time, and this is helping.

Anyway, the holiday build-up continues. We had some snowy weather over the weekend, which was quite nice. It's all ice now, unfortunately, but it was quite pretty at the time. I hope we get some more snow this weekend, once I don't have to worry about digging myself out. I love snow. Have I mentioned that enough on this site yet?

In other news, Mom is currently floating around somewhere in the Caribbean with Joey on a cruise. They're hitting up Jamaica, Mexico, and some other places that I can't think of before returning to Florida for a bit of Disney World action. Basically, it sounds like a great way to spend December...much better than working, anyway. And on that note, I have to get back to work. Ugh.

Another week, another weekend spent doing house stuff. That was the last one, though — Wednesday is the official closing date, so tomorrow is the absolute last day we'll ever be doing anything there. I'm so sick of the house, and yet at the same time, I'm really going to miss it. It sucks that the last time you see things is the usually the point at which you care the least. On Saturday, I cleaned out the attic and found my patented Big Box O' Memories. Fun stuff includes a 1999 calendar filled with humourous scribblings, a copy of The Hoboken Chicken Emergency that I was supposed to return to Alex sometime last millennium, and heaps of notes from high school — you know, the little folded wedges of paper sort of notes. I also found the letter that came with the first cheque I ever got for doing something nerdy: a crummy shareware program I made when I was fourteen. It was from a guy in Japan and was written in the most immaculate handwriting I've ever seen. Good times!

So, today is a rest from the house, and tomorrow is the final day. I can't wait to get it over with so I can get some shopping done. I'm way behind schedule (as always, I suppose). I'm going to head over to the Halifax Shopping Centre at lunch time and probably Mic Mac Mall this evening. Crowds, crowds, crowds...joyous bliss.

Anyway, that's about all I have time for right now. Until we meet again.

OK, well, I've sort of got this site moved to DreamHost (original home: an old computer acting as a server in Mom's basement). However, the backup I made of the original server didn't get totally copied over to the new server, and now the old server is in a storage room. So, I've got to go get it out and get the missing data, thus restoring this site to its full glory (such as that is).

Of course, Mom has to drive home in this, so that's no good, but by pretending that's not true, I can still enjoy the snow — yay!

I'm watching Zeitgeist, a documentary about religion and the September 11^th attacks. It's really interesting — the first half focused on how insanely similar the myths of pretty much all major religions are, and the second half on the 9/11 attacks and how, um, irregular they were. I find it interesting how much the world's opinion of 9/11 shifted (self included). When they first happened, they just seemed so totally impossible, but over the course of the past half decade, they were just sort of accepted. This movie is making me remember how weird they were and how impossible some of it really seems. While I'm not totally behind the conspiracy nut-jobs, there certainly do seem to be an awful lot of things that have to be ignored for the official story to make sense. Sigh.

It bugs me how many things in the world are totally unknowable, especially the things that are so conspiracy laden. 9/11, JFK, and Oak Island all come to mind. The most infuriating thing is that someone, somewhere knows the official explanation for most of these unknowable things. Oak Island is probably the most mysterious, and it's the one I'd be most curious to know the secrets of.

In fact, speaking of Oak Island, operations there is supposed to resume next month, which is great — it stopped quite a few years ago, and it's about time somebody got on it. I wish I had an infinite amount of money, because I've really got the absolute fool proof way of solving the mysterious. (Unfortunately, it would require a few billion dollars and would completely destroy the island.)
